Beck, provided an independent review and analysis of the engineering, technical, and construction aspects of First Wind’s 30 MW Kahuku Wind project in Hawaii to help facilitate the closing of its $117 million loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy.  First Wind is an independent wind energy company focused on the development, financing, construction, ownership and operation of utility-scale wind projects in the United States.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>The wind project, which began construction in July, will consist of twelve 2.5 MW wind turbines and will have the capacity to generate enough clean, renewable energy to power up to 7,700 Oahu homes each year. W. Beck, provided an independent review of one of the world’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. The Avenal Solar project in Kings County, Calif., includes three contiguous PV installations with a combined capacity of 45 MW-AC, which is enough to power 36,000 homes. The facility was developed by Eurus Energy America and is owned jointly by Eurus and NRG Solar, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, Inc.</p> <br /> <p>SAIC performed an initial feasibility review of the project, including a detailed technology review of the project’s thin-film PV modules, followed by a full technical due diligence review in support of the project’s financing on September 22. Beck, assisted Paducah Power System (PPS) with the development, testing, and operation of a 124 MW natural gas-fired peaking plant, which began operation in June to help PPS meet peak summer electricity demand. PPS is a municipally owned electric distribution utility serving residential, commercial and industrial customers in Paducah, Ky.</p> <br /> <p>SAIC provided overall program management and power supply planning for the plant, which is run mostly during “on-peak” hours to reduce electricity costs for PPS customers. Beck, an SAIC company, to evaluate options for cost-effective and environmentally sound solid waste management in future years. </p> <br> <p>In 2004, R. W. Beck initially evaluated collection, disposal, and recycling options for the County. The firm researched options that were available for the County’s solid waste, evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of each, and provided a cost analysis for managing solid waste under each option for the next two decades. Over the past five years, R. W. Beck has worked with the County to implement elements of these management options, resulting in net savings of several hundred thousand dollars per year. </p> <br> <p>Now, R. W.
